Sure. It IS ok for people to be lazy. But also, when you operate from inside your comfort zone, you’re coming from a place of feeling good, feeling confidence and with a sense of risk. This in turn makes you almost unstoppable. Successful change and performance comes from wanting to perform and being able to perform. This happens naturally from within your comfort zone. I’m not teaching you to do nothing; I’m teaching you to stop doing the things that don’t work so you have the energy to do the things that do. It’s not laziness—it’s smart.

This is one of the biggest myths around human behaviour and performance. I’ve shown that the Comfort Zone is actually where you thrive. What we tend to think is the “Comfort Zone” when we see people withdrawing is actually what I’ve come to call The Coping Zone. High-achievers are often their own “worst enemy,” meaning that they are the ones preventing themselves from being happy, free and fulfilled–the very thing they work so hard for. I see this as the expression, “When a hammer is all you have, every problem looks like a nail.” Working harder, longer and more, is typically the only tool high-achievers have access to, which means every problem is met with struggle, sacrifice and even suffering. But, more of the same won’t make a difference. What is needed is a different tool–a different approach, that allows for their ultimate advantage!

It’s less about hammocks and more about the absence of "fake hurry." My day is built around my natural rhythms: slow mornings, deep focus on things that actually matter, and plenty of space for thinking. I do what I call “Inspired Action” which requires zero motivation or incentive–It’s intrinsic motivation. Things get done because I want them done. I typically won’t do work that feels like a fight. I practice what I preach: I move fast because I refuse to rush.

We’d probably be having deep and meaningful conversations. I’m not the biggest fan of smalltalk. I like nourishing connections and conversations. Ask me about movies or tech and I could talk your ear off. I love discussing non-fiction books, or talking about running (something that I do several times a week.)

I’m actually doing very well. Thank you for asking. I’m in that sweet spot where my work feels like a natural extension of who I am, rather than a performance I have to put on. It’s not uncommon that we’re taught effective ways to become successful, only to realise a different version of success for ourselves. We’re not always taught to define our own version of success, so we chase the wrong kind. At times, the success we enjoy comes from sacrifice and suffering, making us question what we’re doing. This was definitely my own experience many years ago, before I decided to define success on my own terms.

Perhaps you’re worried that this all is “too woo-woo”? The advantage of the Comfort Zone is that it is a highly practical way to achieve growth, goals and success. The message of “Get OUTSIDE of your Comfort Zone to grow” is one that is conditioning you to suppress your own internal guidance system–creating a disconnect between your emotions and actions. The truth is, what you truly want (or desire) is always known. It’s felt. But we’ve been conditioned to ignore what we feel, to postpone and delay for the promise of a potential future reward. If you happen to miss an appointment or find yourself running more than 10 minutes late, I usually suggest we reschedule the entire session. I’d rather we meet when you are calm and we have enough time to go where we need to go, and not rush through the conversation. In those cases, I won’t deduct the session from your total—we will simply find a fresh start at no extra charge. My goal is to remove the stress from your life, not add to it.
